Meadows Farms Golf Course

Meadows Farms Golf Course is the kind of course you build if you're serious about getting golfers to travel 50 miles or more from the region's bigger cities. I think they'd be okay with us calling it "quirky", as long as we also note that it's a serious, challenging golf course.

Yep, an 841 yard Par 6

The 27 hole course at Meadows Farms is best known for having some unusual features including the longest hole in the United States, the 841 yard par 6 12th. You'll also find rock walls, a waterfall, railroad ties, island greens, island tees, and multiple instances where you just gotta get across some water. The Red Bull Grill serves breakfast and lunch.

From Cattle Farm to Golf Course

The course occupies the site of what was a cattle farm owned by Bill “Farmer” Meadows, also owner of Meadows Farms Nurseries. After taking up golf in the 1990's, Mr. Meadows decided to build a memorable golf course upon his farm. He hired architect Bill Ward, Jr., who created a 27 hole layout across the rolling countryside.

Near Lake of the Woods

Meadows Farms is near the town of Locust Grove, Virginia, just barely in the northern half of the state so we're okay with putting it in our list of "Northern Virginia" golf courses. The "Lake of the Woods" community is immediately east of the course, surrounding (you guessed it) the Lake of the Woods. It's all about half-way between the cities of Fredericksburg and Culpeper and an 18 mile drive west from I-95.
