Laytonsville Golf Course is a public course located way up near the northern edge of what we consider the DC metro area

County-Owned Public Course in Northern Montgomery County

Laytonsville is one of the nine courses operated by the Montgomery County Revenue Authority. Despite its relatively rural location (or maybe because of it), the course is in a part of the region with several other public and private courses.

The par 71 layout at Laytonsville plays to a maximum of 6,390 yards with four other tees going all the way down to 4,298 yards. There are only one or two holes where water comes into play, but plenty of trees and bunkers to keep you honest. The practice area includes a driving range, chipping green, putting green and practice bunker. There's a pro shop and grill in the clubhouse.

Welcome to Cracklintown Golf Course!

"Cracklintown" is the original name of area now known as Laytonsville. The golf course is across the street from the source of Rock Creek, so it still seems appropriate to consider it part of our list of DC area golf courses. It's between Olney-Laytonsville Road and Woodfield Road, adjacent to a community called Belle Chase. Based on the houses in the neighborhood, we'll just say that the people living in this part of the world have done okay for themselves. And they have a nice golf course next door.
